Crazy Into Crazy

I found myself running through YouTube videos today. And since it is less than a week from the start of football season, i decided to look up some old football commercials.

I found this 2002 old video of Don Cheadle exploring the term crazy. This video for me seems to understand the reason that football, or sports for that matter, can be so magnetic. The idea of something being crazy or impossible is scoffed at in clutch moments and last second victories. As fans see their team down with five seconds left on the clock, there isn't a single one of them that doesn't still believe in victory. This is what sports do. Sports bring hope together with success. Sports takes average Joe's and make them Joe Namath's. Sports takes impossible and makes it possible. Sports says "there will never be another like Micheal Jordan" and then creates Lebron James and Kobe Bryant in the next decade. Sports says "sixth round? Why even try?" Sports also says "Tom Brady, sixth round draft pick and 3 time Superbowl champion."

Nike has recently started their newest marketing pitch in Find Your Greatness. I believe the paragraph picture explains everything that sports can do for an individual. Its not about lowering expectations. Its about taking yourself to the next level. It isn't about changing the game, its about changing your game. Honestly, I am not even sure if I am making my point correctly here, but all i can truly say is I believe that sports is more than just games being played for trophies to be won. Sports forces us to reach inside ourselves and pull out the best effort that can be giving in any 5 second, over time, buzzer beating shot attempt, and make it count. In the words of Don Cheadle, "Sports has turned crazy into crazy." What do you think?
