Why You Should ALWAYS Draft a QB In The First Round of your Fantasy Football Draft.

You probably clicked on this link not knowing what this blog was about, didn't you? Sorry, sarcasm is not one of my strong suits. However, what is one of my strong suits is Fantasy Football.

As the league champion of the Frisbee Players, I know a thing or two about how to put together a winning combination on the Fantasy Football field. Before I begin, I would like to mention my fellow blogger/Fantasy Football enthusiast Jeffrey. You can check out his blog  Ramblings of a Ginger at essaryj.blogspot.com. This blog is a direct response to his recent blog post "My Fantasy Football Draft Strategy: RB's First." In this post, he lays out examples of how he has had success drafting RB's first in his recent fantasy leagues. While I respect his opinion very much, I will respectfully disagree. Also, he happens to be a Denver Broncos fan and as a Kansas City Chiefs fan since birth, we were always meant to be at odds. Let's begin.

As my title suggests, I believe that QB's should be your first pick in the first round, no exceptions. Though my compatriot is right, if you don't get one of the big three (see pictures above), there is a slight drop off in fantasy points by the next 7 fantasy quarterbacks, they are only slight drop offs. Using the fantasy points scored last year by the top twelve fantasy QB's, your average first round QB that you will always have a shot at in your run of the mill 12 owner league, will average 318.5 fantasy points in the year, which works out to 22.75 points a week. This is a very significant stat, because your top 12 score on average, 193.2 points a game. over 100 hundred points and you have the exact same chance to get all of these players even if you are slated last to pick in in round 1 for your league draft.

While running backs are fairly reliable, QB's are even more so. Injuries occur significantly less to QB's because of the strict rules enforced by NFL referees in the league today. Plus, QB's are the field offensively every single play of the game. This means every second of the game a QB could add to your fantasy league "bottom line." Let's look at a few of the promising prospects this year.

Since we have already mention the "big three" I want to focus in on the other fantasy QB lookers.

Cam Newton shocked the Fantasy world last year by taking 4th place in the Fantasy Football QB points bracket. Only scoring a few points behind the big three in his rookie season, Newton is looking at a stronger and better prepared young Panthers offense. Though if you don't have a top 5 pick, he could be hard to come by.

To say that Mathew Stafford is no longer a rookie is an understatement. The Lions starting QB is throwing to arguably the most talented WR in the game in Calvin Johnson. On top of this, overall the Lions QB is durable and has stayed healthy while putting up great fantasy numbers. If you get a shot at him, don't hesitate to make your move or you won't see someone of his caliber again.

Though there are some skeptics, I am going to put myself out there and give my seal of approval on Peyton Manning. Though he has had a bit of a rocky preseason, with more interceptions than TD's, I am filing that under him not having played football in over a year. He is still getting back into the groove and rhythm of being a NFL quarterback. Also, the broncos again look solid at the wide out position as well as the running back spot. The broncos bring depth and a solid defense to the table, which should give manning time to adjust. Also, Eric Decker, WR for the Broncos, has been connecting with Manning consistently. Look for that to be a big duo later in the season.

After all of this information how could you not draft a quarterback. None the less, I do encourage you to Jeffrey's blog and hear his insight and I hope to see you out there in the fantasy world. Class dismissed!
